Dr. Nicholas D. Andros, DDS — orthodontist in Pasco, Washington

Roots in the Tri-Cities

Dr. Andros grew up in Richland. So did his five siblings — and all six of them ended up coming back to the Tri-Cities to raise families of their own. The Andros family lives, works, and is invested here. When Dr. Andros opened Andros Orthodontics in Pasco in 2014, the choice of location wasn't about market analysis; it was about being available to the community he grew up in.

That generational rootedness shapes how the practice operates. Many of the patients are people Dr. Andros has known for years — classmates, neighbors, kids of family friends. Many drive in from Richland, Kennewick, West Richland, and the surrounding communities specifically because they want their orthodontist to be someone with skin in the game — someone who's still going to be here in five years, ten years, twenty years, treating the next generation.

Education & training

Dental school
Columbia University College of Dental Medicine, New York, NY · Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS), 2011

Orthodontic residency
Jacksonville University School of Orthodontics, Jacksonville, FL · Certificate in Orthodontics, 2014

Continuing education

Dr. Andros completes well beyond the required continuing education hours every year, with particular emphasis on two areas that shape the modern orthodontic case mix in adult patients:

Professional certification

Dr. Andros completed initial board certification by the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) after residency and is currently progressing through the ABO recertification process. ABO certification is a voluntary credential beyond licensure; only a portion of practicing orthodontists pursue it at any point.

The Straight Truth About Crooked Teeth

In 2024, Dr. Andros published The Straight Truth About Crooked Teeth: Everything You Need to Know About Orthodontics — a patient-education book co-authored with Dr. Glenn Krieger, founder of the OrthoPreneurs orthodontic practice network. It's a plain-language guide for patients and parents trying to make sense of the modern orthodontic landscape: what's actually different between today's options — clear aligners, traditional braces, MARPE, airway-focused treatment, surgical vs. non-surgical approaches — and how to choose a provider whose approach fits the case.

A complimentary copy is given to every patient who comes in for a consultation at Andros Orthodontics. If you'd like one before your visit, ask at the front desk and we'll send one out.

What makes Dr. Andros' approach different

1. He treats the airway, not just the teeth

Most orthodontists move teeth. Dr. Andros looks at the whole craniofacial picture — how jaw position, palate width, tongue posture, and breathing pattern interact. He has completed eight years of continuous airway-focused continuing education from 2018 through 2026, training directly under many of the field's most recognized specialists:

This roster is essentially the multidisciplinary team behind modern airway medicine — orthodontists, oral surgeons, sleep medicine physicians, myofunctional therapists, and frenulum specialists, all working from the same evidence base.

2. He performs MARPE — and has trained with leaders in the field

The traditional teaching for decades was that the upper palate fused in late adolescence and that expansion in adults required jaw surgery. MSE — the Maxillary Skeletal Expander — changed that. Originated by Dr. Won Moon at the UCLA School of Dentistry, the technique uses temporary mini-implants placed in the palate to apply force directly to the bone, separating the midline suture without surgery — even in patients in their 30s, 40s, and beyond. The broader US orthodontic community now calls this category of procedure MARPE.

Dr. Andros has trained directly with Dr. Won Moon in small-group continuing-education courses on the MSE technique. He has additionally been formally trained in MARPE through the OrthoPreneurs RD Study Group. Dr. Andros has been a MARPE provider in private practice since the late 2010s — performing the technique years before most US orthodontists offered it — and standardly uses the slower MASPE protocol for comfort and stability in adult cases. 3. He runs a fully digital workflow with Damon Ultima brackets

Andros Orthodontics was the first practice in the Tri-Cities to commit to a fully digital orthodontic workflow, and currently remains the only one offering it for every patient. Every case is planned virtually from CBCT 3D scans. Brackets are placed using a 3D-printed indirect bonding tray for sub-millimeter precision. Damon Ultima brackets — the newest and most customizable generation of the premium Damon self-ligating system — are the standard for every patient, not an upgrade tier. The combination produces more predictable treatment times, fewer mid-course adjustments, and shorter total treatment than traditional methods. Read more about digital orthodontics →

4. Owner-operated since 2014, with one doctor and one practice

Andros Orthodontics has had the same owner and the same treating orthodontist since 2014. Dr. Andros personally reviews every case and develops every treatment plan. Depending on case flow, the treatment plan is presented to you by Dr. Andros or by his treatment coordinator, with Dr. Andros available for any clinical questions. There's no rotating cast of orthodontists, no DSO management layer, and no associate doctors substituting in mid-treatment. The orthodontist who plans your case is the one overseeing it through completion.
